I got my first exacto knife at age 6. “Modify Everything” would be an accurate Carter family motto. From an elementary school age I spent my summers working for my father’s product design company where I helped products go from concept to market and learned about product creation and manufacturing techniques. This exposed me to a wide range of design processes. I bring to the table years of experience and lessons learned at the dinner table.
Chopping and adding hydraulics to plastic model cars, cutting designs into skateboard grip tape, repainting bmx bikes, airbrushing flames on our wheelbarrow, building street luges, jamaican bobsleds, and other fast, dangerous inventions are what made my childhood.
Work ethic and pursuit of perfection are also two of my strong points. Sometimes this means that I will make less money on a job, but I know that it has to be done right, since it’s a direct expression of myself.
Stampin’ Up!, Events Graphic Designer, 2008-Present
As a member of a 6 person events team, I am responsible for executing large company events in national and international markets, including Canada, Australia, and Europe. Responsibilities consist of branding the event, creating promotional products, souvenirs, signage, set design, interactive displays, video graphics, animations, and all other aspects of producing a show.
DesignStream, Graphic Designer, 2007-2008
DesignStream is a small design studio focused on the housing and architecture markets. I worked directly with real estate developers to brand their projects, create effective sales centers, plat maps, floor plans, brochures, 3D architectural renderings, kiosks, promotional materials, billboards, direct mail pieces, site signage, and website design. In addition to real estate clients, we did custom interior design, signage, and retail design for several local clients.
